Welcome to TFFN! That is a nice survivor. You have any pictures of the interior? Having a survivor that is mostly factory stock yet, can help others with like models. Through the years some details are discarded and an original is the only way to know what may have been present.

I won't find any survivor in that good of condition in this part of the country. I have to settle for rust issues on a original if I want to stay with a low cost.

I realize the color is probably responsible for the name, but I couldn't help but worry that the song lyric might somehow be a statement on her reliability: "Why do you build me up, Buttercup,baby, just to let me down?"

Beautiful survivor, as Terry says. If, like me, you quickly get tired of two-speed automatics, I hope you'll document everything thoroughly before going to a C4 or AOD.

=)) Every time that song comes on the radio when I'm driving her, I crank it up! =))

The color did lend to the nick-name, btw. ;-)

An AOD is not out of the question, but at this point, my intentions are to keep it as purely original as possible. The F-o-M is doing ok, other than a reluctance to shift to drive when cold. I'm sure the missing kickdown rod might help that. :roll:

I will be adding pics as soon as I get a pretty day off.

Rotor,

One detail to keep in mind when considering a tranny swap, is the 260 is a 5 bolt bellhousing pattern. There is a 5 bolt bell for a C4, but any 6 bolt pattern like the AOD would need an adapter and those are expensive.

Rotor,

A delay in shifting into drive when the tranny is cold might be the result of a clogged pickup screen. This was a fairly common problem in older models, especially if the fluid was not changed every 24,000 miles or so per manufacturer's recommendations. As the vehicle is new to you, I suggest you drain the tranny fluid, clean out the pan, and the pickup screen. Be sure to drain the torque converter (there are two drain plugs, one on each side), and refill according to specs. It is an inexpensive way to fix the problem and prevent it from getting worse. If it doesn't work, you are only out a relatively small amount compared to a tranny overhaul or replacement.

Jim, that's on the agenda for when it gets a little warmer out. I'm hoping that will help the "morning sickness". :lol:

Terry, I knew the 260 had the 5 bolt pattern... but as I said, I'd really like to keep her as original as possible. Changing anything always leads to changing more things than originally planned. :roll:

The weather is finally starting to break here. I should be able to work on Buttercup soon.

I went to the local car show with the car the first Saturday of March. The weather was cool, but clear. There was a pretty good number of cars that showed up, despite a couple other shows that day. Quite a few folks looked the Falcon over. I even overheard one lady mention it looked like it was a barn find, ( which in a way it was, as the seller just pulled it from his barn to sell it! )

I guess the judges must like something about the car, since we came home with a Top 10 Best of Show trophy! (*)

We usually go to the one in Fayetteville. First and third Saturday of the month at Partners 2 Pizza in Fayetteville.

We will be doing a few others once I get the new front end parts installed.
