I have the 5.0 out of the 94 Mustang. I have the complete wire harness out. I desire to eliminate as much of the unnecessary wiring and smog related connections as possible. I also desire to keep the cruise control, air conditioning, power steering, and radiator. I will be using the stock intake, throttle body, and other engine parts. The only mods I have planned to date is perhaps a slightly different cam (nothing too radical I was hoping for a steeda #19 but cant find them I think they stopped making all steeda products?). I also plan to use a different header (not decided on specific ones yet. Was hoping for an equal length shorty).

My main question is, what can I get rid of (sensors and wiring)? What must I keep to make the computer work properly? I understand from research that the 94 and 95 computers are not tweek friendly so is it better to go with a different one?

I plan to get a tweecer to do programming as I hope to achieve max power and fuel efficiency at the same time.

I also read about relocation of the part that serves as a coil…. Cant recall the name of it….I would like to do this as I don’t like it sitting right there on top next to the power steering pump. I also read that it is susceptible to break down when exposed to heat so relocating it only seems to be an obvious mod.

Any and all help is so much appreciated.

Thanks to you all here on TFFN

Hollis

No one wants to help on this? Has TFFN lost some of its following?

Hollis,

Must be summer! Fewer posts as people are busy through the summer season.

I am no help. I avoid electronic engine management systems. Too frequent maintenance, plus too high a cost. That is why I prefer the Falcon as designed and many other 60's vehicles.

www.fordfuelinjection.com is where I have gone to for research in the past. Sometimes the info helps, sometimes I find no answers.

Hollis,

I would venture to guess that you are not getting much help on this post because the information is readily available in your manual and wiring diagram.

I've done a remote TFI using a failed, gutted one mounted on the distributor and mounting a new stock one on a block of aluminum mounted in a cooler spot. Just make a simple harness to connect the two.

Most of us who have done 5.0 EFI swaps used the '89-'93 Mustang harnesses, with the '92-'93 being the most popular. The '94-'95 is more complex and less swap-friendly than the earlier harnesses, and the '94-'95 computer is tuned for less power and therefore, fewer warranty issues when the cars were new. You're kind of blazing a new trail with this harness.

But that doesn't mean that you can't use it in your car, especially if you are planning to use the instrument cluster, HVAC box, and other dash components from the donor car. The more you use, the more of a plug'n'play the harness becomes, and you really don't need to remove very much from it. The most obvious things would be the airbag stuff, and anything that has to do with accessories that you don't plan on using, but this won't amount to a huge pile of wire by any stretch. I'd probably just use the whole thing so I'd be sure not to remove anything that I might need now or in the future.

Thanks guys. I just want to eliminate as much of the smog stuf as I can. Do I need to still use the o2 sensors if I am not going to use cats and if I will be using equal length shorties? There was a whole pack of vacume stuff under the passenger fender. What are those for and do I need them? There is also a ball and other stuff mostly associated with the cruise on the driver side fender well. Can I get by without some of that stuff? Can I swap to a earlier computer and use the same wire harness and just eliminate what it doesnt call for? I would love to use the owners manual but one didnt come with the car. I guess I just need to go buy a book on it?

Thanks for all your input and for future help.

Hollis

Thanks Turbo. Do you know anything about NOS? Thinking of adding spray.
